If I were you Google Factory Beds Direct Manchester, even if you don't buy from them, their website is really informative, downside is it gives you so much more to think about but at least you can do it being well informed.

Hi pinkypants, the above looks great but is a little out of my price range. I was hoping to pick something up for under £300. Would you be able to let me know what you think of these? Or point me in the direction of a good pocket sprung for under £300? I think memory foam is likely to be too warm for me!

    Thank you!

If you don't like memory foam or think it'll be too warm the avoid it. So that's the 1st mattress out of the window, plus it's too cheap for that kind of spec.

seems ok, not going to be the best in the world but it's not a lot of money either. It does seem good value for money though.

being an ortho it's going to be quite firm, so it all depends on what type of feel you like from you mattress.

I don't have any personal expericence of any of the above models, so I'm just going on the description.

Best advice reallly, is to try some in the shops and see how they feel. Try the smaller independent companies and haggle!

Pocket sprung mattress is definantly the way to go.

  • Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated. I've had a look through Factory Beds Direct and very impressed - now torn between going budget through John Lewis:

Or going for the cheapest which factory beds recommend coming in at £315:

Going to head into town this weekend and sit on a few!
  • We bought a pocket sprung with 8cm memory foam on top. Is seriously comfortable now after two years, we look forwqard to getting home from holidays etc to our own bed!
Downside is you can't turn it so presumably may not last as long as a turnable one.

We bought our kids single mattresses online from a company ( who used to post on here ) but guess I can't name that company still. They had a good choice of smaller manufcturers mattresses and we were pleased with the two we bought and will use again

Well I've got a latex mattress and always look forward to coming home to it. I've had various pocket sprung, memory foam and a mix of the 2 but the latex is the best I've ever tried and thats after working in a bed shop for 3 years. They come in 3 firmness levels to suit diferrent people but the best description of how it feels is like belly flopping into a pool of custard.:j
Oh and it was ripped in a corner on delivery so only paid £50 after arguing/dealing with shop for it rather than returning it for a new one at £600 super king size.:D

D'you mean a sheet of latex over pocket springs or just latex and nothing else?
  • Last year we bought a whole new bed, i did a bit of research and ended up buying Sleepeezee Cool Comfort 1200 - and funnily enough i was only browsing Debenhams earlier to see it was on sale.

I got this one because it had 1400 pocket springs. I read somewhere that the more springs it had, the easier it would be for them to collapse/lose shape. If you had too fewit wouldnt support you as well. anyway it was something like that. The cool comfort 1200 was middle of the road.
  • Hey thanks alot guys for all your help
i am thinking to buy this mattress .. what you guys recommend

    Thanks

Just latex thru and thru. The mattress is therfore turnable unlike the last few we've had. Its a spanish make and the meduim density is available thru BedShed and Cannocks.
