At the second I am facing a court summons from a funeral company asking for the money for my mothers funeral. My mother had a life insurance plan, which in th even of her death the sum would be paid out to the executor or the policy, then that money would be paid to the funeral directors. In the end my sister, the executor of the will took the money from the insurance policy for her self and left me to fork out for the bill. I merely organised the funeral on behalf of my father in law and the payment would be sorted out by my sister and father in law and his family, but with my sister running off with the money and my father in law refusing to pay the outstanding debt, the funeral directors come to me and ask me for the outstanding debt! With my mothers passing, my father in law has been given all her estate therefore he should be held liabel. I have been corresponding with the funeral directors requesting for a copy of the funeral agreement, to which as far as I can remember I have not signed, they have never reponded back, only letters from the debt collecting company that was working on the behalf of the funeral directors; they were sending threatening letter for the debt of my mothers funeral. I have replied to each of these letters and have never recieved a reply from them! In each letter, I have provided name's and address's of the people who have assets of my mother's estate.Again i have never had a reply from these one sided letters, again only threatening requests and threats of exuming my mothers body. I have replied to the summons from the funeral directors and the courts, I have recieved the date and time for the court case. Could anyone please offer some sort of advice or information to benefit my case, as I need to fight it, seeing as I am a disabled woman living off disability living allowance. I completely agree with the fact that the funeral directors are entitled to their payment, I can prove this as I have evidence of the name's and numbers i had given to the funeral directors, to help straighten the matter of the debt out.
If anyone could provide some advice and information to this matter I would be eternally grateful as this have been an ongoing battle on my part for two whole years, fearing for my mothers grave site and her burial.
Thank you,

I'm a bit of both on this subject, having seen the terrible struggle that some people are having to find work, with whole families with nobody working through no fault of their own, who have debts that have been taken out in desperation:(
But I also see older people who's income from savings that they have built up throughout their working lives dwindling to an extent that they are having real problems surviving:(
People who are like my husband and myself (hubby self-employed very fortunately with work), trying to build up pensions pots/investments that are being hit by recent recessions:(
It is hard for all, and I appreciate that we are very lucky to be in a position to still be able to pay into a pension, we still keep paying money into our pension obviously but will it have been worth it upon retirement?
I'll get back to you on that one in 10-15 years time!:)"Sealed Pot challenge" member No. 138

Older people are also more likely to have large pension pots so pension pot value would naturally skew the results to larger positive values for older respondents.
It's possible that you didn't intend to include pension pot value but given the question, had I voted in the poll, I'd have included mine.
Also worth pondering how many included the equity value of their home(s) in their answer. I probably would have, given that question.0 -
Since I lost my husband last year when various insurances were paid out, I am mortgage free and have a ridiculous amount in the bank but I would give every penny back to see him for just one more hour...Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorn is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that she is pink; we logically know that she is invisible because we can't see her."0

This is reassuring news, when there is so much press about the economy struggling at the moment. In fact I read this morning that this is officially the longest that the UK has ever taken to recover from an economic downturn. Luckily, I have a financial planner who has put my mind at ease over the past few years. Without him and his team, I may well have given up on my pension fund which would have been a huge mistake, as it has actually done really well. He's got some good advice online if you are interested, take a look at 'The SDB Approach' on youtube. If you are worried about your pensions of investments, I would recommend considering a fund manager as they have such an extensive understanding of the economy that you are reassured that your money is safe.0
