"spares or repair"

I recently won an ebay aution for a camera which was described as "spares or repair" in the heading. In the decription, the seller said it was in full working order but wouldn't power up because it needed a new battery.
I would have liked to try it with a new battery before paying but the seller doesn't do collection (fair enough). I'm starting to get a bit paranoid that it won't work and I'll be stuck with it because it's "spares or repair"! If it turns out to be a dud, would I have any comback? I assume I wouldn't be able to say it's SNAD if it doesn't work.....

Personally I probably wouldn't risk it as you might not necessarily win an SNAD on ebay if there was another fault with the cameraI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If it only needs a new battery then I'm sure the seller would do just that and then sell it as in full working order - for considerably more.
As you've already bought it then your only action is new battery and fingers crossed0 -

exactly.how many times do folks fallfor this
the majority of spares and repairs stuff is broken
if you knowq your stuff and can repair/break for parts its fine
but hoping to get a cheap item often ends in tears0 -
We sold our old bedroom LCD TV a few months ago, but as I couldnt find the remote I sold it "for parts not working". I couldnt even remember if it worked anyway.0

Hmm.. That's what I was thinking! I've already ordered a new battery. Maybe the seller didn't realise how easy it is to get a new one?
Normally I wouldn't have touched it, but it was local and I was hoping (optomistically) that the seller would agree to cash on collection. He won't budge, which makes me more suspicious that the "only needs a new battery" was just a ruse (or maybe I'm just paranoid)0 -
Spares or Repair = The items useless unless you know how to fix these things avoid like the plague, Or only buy
if you can see something in the picture that you want and isnt broken.
I have bought a faulty electrical item, As i only wanted the holder. Cheaper than a new holder.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
We've sold a couple of electrical things and cameras that stopped working as spares/repairs, obviously clearly advertised so. I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to buy and then ask for a refund if they can't fix them/use them, that would feel extremely unfair. Of course some things might be non- repairable or not easily repairable, it's a gamble you take.
I was actually amazed to get £40 for our 3 year old camera that had a jammed lens, amazing to think somebody could do something with it.0 -

According to ebay's definition, "spares or repair" also includes items that have missing parts which could be easily replaced. So if it has other faults that weren't listed, is it SNAD?
Apart from the battery, it had a US charger. Both of these are easily replaceable but if you buy them at high street prices, it would be uneconomic. If the seller had bought a battery and charger from Jessops and then sold it as a complete set, he almost certainly would have lost money on it. On the other hand, I don't know how he can be sure it only needs a new battery if it won't power up! I'll just have to wait until arrives to find out! (I do have a battery for it)0 -
Difficult one because they contradicted themselves saying 'spares/repairs' and then saying 'in full working order but wouldn't power up because it needed a new battery'.
If ebays definition of spares/repairs is as you say above then maybe you won't have any issue raising a SNAD - the description says it will work if you put in a new battery - if it doesn't then its not as described!0 -
What camera are we talking about..a £30 one or £450 one?0
