I don't agree. Since I got my iPad, I've only really used my laptop to sync and update my iPad. There is nothing (apart from some games) that I used my laptop for that my iPad cannot do, and the iPad is far more portable and quick to turn on than my laptop.zzzLazyDaisy wrote: »The first thing I would say is that although tablets are fun and have their place (I wouldn't be without mine) they are not a replacement for a laptop.
An iPad wouldn't be any use to the OP though, OP you are right you need one that supports Flash to be able to play Club Penguin.
Do you mean that the resolution is higher, so everything on the screen (like the icons on the desktop etc) is smaller, so more fits on? So yes it's almost as if the screen is bigger, in a way.the screen actually appears bigger in use than the old 17" laptop. I can't explain why this is, as I am not techie enough0 -

Did you use your iPad for the post above?

It really depends what you use your laptop for. Mine is used for work related documents, digital manipulation of photos, and watching movies, plus playing the odd game or two.
I have an android tablet, so Flash isn't a problem. My main problem is that tablets simply don't have enough memory to store all the documents/music/photos/movies that I want to access when I am away from home and I can't use my portable hard-drive with a tablet.
And typing long documents on an on-screen keyboard is just not my idea of a fun time!I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

Easy now... I'm asking if you feel handicapped without a full keyboard. Not necessarily for this post, but in general.
The quality of the posting is fine.
Now calm down and answer impassively.

Very true. But for what the OP's son wants it for, a tablet would suffice. Assuming his games work on it.zzzLazyDaisy wrote: »It really depends what you use your laptop for.
You need more than 64GB of stuff? My main problem is that tablets simply don't have enough memory to store all the documents/music/photos/movies that I want to access when I am away from home0 -

Which do you recommend for around £200 that fit this criteria?0 -

No the on screen keyboard is fine for things like this, emails and forums, I'd not want to use it for typing long documents though, as it's a bit small and for obvious reasons you cannot feel where the keys are so can't really type as fast as normal.
Something it does do very well is accents and symbols though, you just hold down the appropriate key to get accented versions of the letter or similar puctuation marks eg ¡ol!!
I can't say it's a feature I use often, but it is much quicker than searching through the symbol menus in Word to find the right symbol in the right font.0 -

I am sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but I am laughing out loud here.
64gb is nowhere near enough for a main laptop!
To start with, my camera takes a 4gb sd card and it is not unusual for me to fill it in one day - you obviously don't shoot on RAW!
My portable hard-drive is 500gb and 75% full, carrying a full back-up from my laptop.
I agree, that is much more capacity than OP has suggested that her son needs, but with a laptop he will be able to do so much more than on a tablet, for a lot less money.I'm a retired employment solicitor. I noted that they sell a keyboard dock, so I wondered how it was to use without it. I used to hate sending text messages before I used the BlackBerry Qwerty keyboard. So I imagine the iPod offers something in between that a a normal keyboard.
Not...though too expensive.
