Reccomend Router for NTL Cable modem, win98 and winxp

At present I have a win98 pc but my daughters using a winxp laptop I was going to get the same router for home that shes uses at the uni house but found its only for win98se and mines just win98. That ones a linksys with speedbooster.

Whats a good one and easy to use and reliable for our set up and for later on when I do get a new xp pc to use all 3?

At present it would be set up by wire to win98pc and laptop wireless then eventually it would be set up to winxp pc wired but laptop wireless and the old win98 pc get a dongle thing for that so the grandchildren can use it fir homework n things

Netgears are good, but you don't need to worry about the 98se thing, routers don't need drivers, just plug the ethernet card in to your 98 PC..

If you are on cable, make sure it is a cable/dsl model, not adsl.

Are you sure the linksys won't work ? This spec page for the linksys router I have lists win98 as working ?

Its this one shes got it says win98 second edition, I just thought it would be easier to have the same then I'd be more help to her if I had the same one when she has problems. Its down to £39.99 too which is another reason I was hoping to use it

Do you mean if I have a dongle for the win98 pc rather than have it wired it will be ok to use the router recommanded for win98 second edition even though this is win98?

No, the reverse, I mean wired requires no drivers at all, 98 or 98se will work wired.

The only thing that needs drivers will be your network card (which I assume you already have, and is working), or the wireless dongle.

If you make the PC wireless, you need to make sure the dongle has 98 drivers.

Well Im better off getting one thats for win98 then because eventually the win98 pc will be wireless when I get a winxp pc as that will be the main pc then so I will want that one wired.

I'll look at the netgear ones but I hope they are kind of foolproof

All routers work with 98.

It's the wireless adapter that may be problematic, not the router.
