Which shoes with tunic and leggings?

Got an engagement party to go to at the weekend, in my bid to be more organised I've bought a few new tops for upcoming nights out and xmas. I got a lovely satin tunic top, lots of blues and greens, just above my knee. Was planning on wearing it with leggings but I'm unsure which shoes to wear, flat ballet pumps or heels?
I was reading somewhere that you shouldn't wear heels with leggings but I'm pretty sure that I've seen others wearing them.
I've seen a nice pair of black patent wedge shoes from Next which DH says he'll treat me to if I want them

I'd agree. If it's for a smart night out then heels definitely. I love ballet pumps but it's a more casual look or if you know there's going to be lots of walking!:rotfl:

I have to admit I'm not keen on leggings and heels, I would go for black tights with heels or high boots with leggings

  • I've worn (very) high-heels, flats, sneakers, & boots of all descriptions with leggings - they're extremely versatile and go with almost anything. The only things i'd personally steer clear of with leggings is low-medium heels and kitten heels - i'd choose either flats or very high heels. But that's just me.
  • If I had the legs for leggings, it would be long, fantastic, gorgeous, lovely boots with leggings.

Thanks for all your advice, I'm really rubbish at fashion, usually in wellies and a Barbour, before Barbours became fashionable! Not sure about boots with the top because it's quite long, DH says it looks like a dress and could wear it with just black tights.
These are the shoes that I've seen that DH says he'll buy me if I want them, I think they would go?

IMHO I would only wear heels if the leggings came right down to the foot and the heels were ankle boots or shoe boots.

Otherwise I would go for tights with flats or heels.

    These boots would look great...http://www.newlook.com/shop/womens/boots/cut-out-shoe-boot_216895101?tmcampid=76&tmad=c&extcam=CSE_2010_Ggl_001&CAWELAID=809781986

Can I ask a daft question please?
If you wear boots with leggings, say black ones ( I dont mean heavy jersey or "Jeggings") is it not the same look as boots and tights? ie no-one can see that there is no foot in your legging?
    Anyone understand me?

Depends on the thickness, some leggings do look like tights (much to my horror when driving past the usual parking spaces around a primary school at kicking out time - Mums, just check they aren't transparent before you show the world what you had for dinner leaning in to fasten the car seats!

Makes them a lot warmer, no chance of laddering and you feel slightly more dressed than a sheer pair of tights.

Oh, whilst we are on the subject of leggings, this is a plea -

Don't buy and wear the beige cable knitted leggings from Primark as your only item of clothing on your lower body - EVER

They've been in the shops for roughly a fortnight. People look completely naked from a distance in them, the knitted gusset looks like a camel toe and they sag down to about 3 inches below the crotch after about 3 wears, so the camel toe look turns into what looks like either a scrotum or the flap women who have caesarian sections get hanging over their scar. Oh, and the rise is too short, so they usually have their backside hanging out as well.

Trust me, you all look skanky as hell in them. Use them as tights and don't try and convince yourself that because you have a perfect figure, you look in any way, shape or form good. They take your perfect figure and make you look like the rest of us.
