American Express in the US

I'm going over to Florida next year and am planing on using my American Express card most of the time as I managed to speak to a supervisor who has removed all the foreign exchange fees from my card. I've been with them for years.
How is acceptance over there? Its good where I live in the UK but I have been places where it is not accepted very much. Will I be able to rely on it in Orlando?

The most shops will take Amex. Even places like Costco only take Amex. You should be fine with it0

Much more widely accepted than the UK.
However I'd still take a back up. The mag strip could fail or it could be lost/stolen.
I tend to leave spare cards at base (in a safe if one is available). That way you'll be ok if you lose your bag.0 -
Ah good. Amex is on par with Visa and MasterCard pretty much then in the US? I guess that should be expected considering its called American Express :P0

The foreign exchange surcharge is the main reason I don't use my AmEx cards outside the UK. For info, holders of US-issued AmEx Centurion and Platinum chargecards don't pay these foreign use surcharges any more. I for one would like to see this extended to UK cardholders.
Without breaching confidences, are you able to tell us how you managed this? Thanks.0
