Some people have to go outside in the dark with a torch in the pouring rain to read their meter, then you get neighbours thinking you have gone nuts.

Why not read the meter in the daylight on a sunny day, problem solved and nosy neighbours happy.:)

That is how they are meant to work.

You don't expect it to read 380W for the whole length of time your bread maker is on do you?

    Yes, I know.
Trying to read instantaneous power consumption from a normal dial, or digital meter that the power company fit is almost impossible, which was what I was trying to say.

Why didn't I think of that?

    Talk about stating the obvious.

Oh, it was because I wanted to see how much electricity I was using at that specific time, not on a nice sunny day.

I don't have to do that any more anyway because I now have a plug in electricity monitor and a meter monitor sitting right next to my computer monitor.

OH! the fridge has just switched on.

Oops sorry, it should have been obvious that everyone rushes out in the rain and dark to see how much electricity they are using, I will look tonight to watch my neighbours all reading theirs during the evening, I really must keep up with modern trends.

My fridge has just switched on as well, I didn't need to check my meter I heard it, wonderful things ears unless one is unfortunate to be deaf of course.

Yes I do read the meter to keep a check on overall consumption, but just thought it would be good to be able to see the "peaks and troughs" of my electricity usage, but it sounds like too much hassle;)
