Easyjet & Visa Electron

Has anyone had a problem paying for Easyjet flights using a Visa Electron card? Having just got my hands on a Visa Electron card I had a number of flights to book but every time I tried to book with Easy jet I got a message which said "
  • The card type you have specified (e.g. Mastercard, Visa) does not appear to match the card number supplied. Please check that the card type selected is correct.
I had definitely entered the correct card details!
I then booked flights with Jet2 & Monarch & had no problems using the card. I still want to book Easyjet flights & I am tempted just to use another card & pay the fee.......or is that what they want people to do?:(

  • hello
i purposely got a halifax easy account for easyjet booking (saved on 40+ returns so far)
which i top up 'instant payments' from my hsbc account whilst booking the flights.
ensure you have money on your visa electron account as a first step.

and then ring easyjet and ask them. it should work fine, although i have had it fail a few times, might be worth clearing your cookies (internet options, clear history, delete cookies)
    or trying during different hours

Had exact same problem with my new Halifax Electron card... tried on 2 separate computers, with different browsers too. Rang up EJ customer service - fortunately they rang me back so I didn't incur too much in phone charges - explained the problem, said I wanted the internet price and they did the booking for me over the phone. They said they didn't know why it wasn't working online but would look into it.
  • Hi,

I have used my Visa Electron card for 3 transactions with Easyjet. As mentioned by a user above, this was the only reason why I took the card. My last transaction was for a flight next year, but I paid for it perhaps no more than 2 months ago. I have to say that in all three transactions, I never encountered a problem.

Hmmm maybe there is a gremlin in the system. I do not know if it is worth emailing Easyjet. Maybe it can alert them to a problem which they can resolve. Below is a link to the email page if you wanted to do so:

I have recently booked book flights with Easyjet (for the first time) with my Halifax Electron card

from memory I also had problems, I checked and checked several times, all details where correctly entered

sorry I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I think I changed the card payment type to Visa, all I know is after several attempts I finally got there, booking it with the Visa Electron card
  • I had a similar problem:

The card type you have specified (e.g. Mastercard, Visa) does not appear to match the card number supplied. Please check that the card type selected is correct.

I contacted their customer services, and the rep eventually put it thrugh as a credit card transaction, waiving the fee. I was told that the fee would not be waived in future. I will contact them through the email link (thanks for that) and let you know what response I get. As with most of you, I applied for the card just to book Easyjet flights.
  • I think that there is an "issue no." on the electron card, and this has to be entered as well as the usual stuff. Easy to miss.

I use the Halifax one with Easyjet - no problem.

Believe it or not - error messages don't always give the correct reason for failure :-)
  • Are you sure your Electron card is still an Electron and not been re classed as a visa debit? I have a cooperative Electron card which I used successfully to book Easyjet flights earlier in the year. September and I try to book flights with Aer Lingus using the Electron card but am unable to do it. Lots of to-ing and fro-ing phone calls between AL and the Coop and it seems that Visa have changed the recognition of the first four digits from Electron to standard Visa.

Perhaps this is the same for you?

Really? Is this for all Coop Electron card-holders? I booked Easyjet flights with my Coop Electron mid September without a problem. I only use the card/account for that purpose.
  • Ok so, I have had a response over the issue I encountered, as follows:

    Dear Mr
    ,

    Thank you for contacting us.

I am sorry to learn that your visa electron card was not accepted online. However, I would like to inform you that due to technical issue visa electron card is not accepted by our system online.

Further, I would also confirm you that there a card fee for every card (debit or credit), except for visa electron card.

Also, I would request you to provide bin ranges(first 6 digit of the card), to add it to our database so that you do not face the same issue again.

As soon as you will provide us the requested detail, I will forward it and make sure that you do not face the same issue.

    Yours sincerely

    Nisha

I have provided the requested info. Interesting that they state that there is a "technical error" related to the use of Visa Electron online. I have replied, to check whether or not I will have to book by telephone, and lose the online discount as a result.

I haven't booked with Easyjet recently. It was Aer Lingus that I had the problem with.
