Off Road Insurance - Can I?

Options
Hi All!

I Have a motorbike, Locked in garage and uninsured/SORN'ed over winter as I won't be using it.

However the people who manage the garages have now added a note to all the garage users advising that 'any vehicle stored on or in the designated parking areas and garages must, As a minimum be insured for third party coverage' - it goes on to explain this is to cover all residents belongings should there be a fire ect.

Can i get insurance to cover me? As mentioned the bike is not road legal but if i have to be covered for other peeps I'm thinking I'd be best bumping it to fire and theft to cover me better.

Anyone have any ideas? Have searched but keep finding stuff about things like off road (motor cross) type policys!

you can get laid up insurance, which is usually for when you're doing repairs / rebuilding cars (and possibly bikes)

I used to leave my motorbike insured all year round, even if it was SORN

the way I read it the requirement was for third party cover which you don't get with laid up policies

you just quoted me that included a link for third party laid up insurance...

Although i think they were wanting some sort of cover on the bike rather than it just being uninsured.
  • Hmmm.... a quote for laid up insurance - 6 months is only a tenner less than my annual TPF & T cover.

Think I'll either consider getting it re insured with the same bods as before or sell it - HATE spending money on something and getting no use out of it! (Must be too much MSE?!)

I thought (and as far as I can see the link seems to agree) that laid up insurance is basically Fire & Theft although I know on car policies it can also include accidental damage too but not third party

ah sorry i misunderstood what you meant. But as the bike is going to be garaged and not road legal, there'd be very little chance of it causing any damage to cover a third party claim.

I agree, but TP is what seems to be required by the landlords
