Be warned the 1.9D is severely sore on fuel. Find the extra for a 1.6HDI or 2.0HDI if you really must drive a van derived car.0

and the Berlingo is also a tragic 'car'. I borrowed one for a few month a couple of years ago and it was the worst few months of my life.0

It makes a good van, but not a good car.0 -
Thanks, we don't have one yet. We would love to keep our ancient Alhambra, however it has done 199,000 virtually trouble-free miles up until recently, and so reluctantly we will need to replace it soon. We need to downsize and would prefer something else from the VW group, but they are too expensive. We want something with a large space in the back which the Alhambra has once all the seats are out, and preferably with a high driving position. Although we don't particularly like the look of the Berlingo, it does appear to fulfil our requuirements. We're not bothered about bling or flash - just a good sturdy vehicle that will carry lots of stuf and tow a small trailer.
Any suggestions gratefully received.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

My brother has had a couple of Berlingo platform vehicles as vans, with the 1.9D engine.
He loves to tell me it has more space in the back than a Disco:rotfl:
It is a rugged little van (car )with a proven, if dated engine. They are certainly heavy on fuel, not helped by short gears and usually carrying a moderate load all the time.
The HDis are better performing engines and offer more economy.
I did spy a VW Caddy, relatively new yesterday, that looked a nice van/car crossover. But have no knowledge of them.
Skoda Roomster or is that too small/new?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Both too new/expensive I'm afraid, we have considered a Roomster and the Seat Altea.
Can't afford anything new enough from the VW group!(AKA HRH_MUngo)
