Mortgage lender has scuppered my Jobseekers

I'll bullet point as I'm not normally a clear writer.

1. Got made redundant earlier this year, started claiming JSA while jobhunting - fine.
2. Had mortgage insurance, claiming on that - fine.
3. As part of the jobseekers, they asked for mortgage details. These are completed by me, then sent to my lender, who forwards to whatever /gov department it said on the forms. Fine, these were duly sent off.
4. I came home this weekend visiting my parents to find a letter that my benefits were being cancelled as the mortgage information was not received.

So, am looking for what to do next. Concerns are:

1. Getting the JSA moving again
2. Making sure this doesn't interfere with my mortgage insurance (I presume the insurer checks with the .gov that I'm claiming JSA to prevent fraudulent claims, and verify jobseeking evidence).
3. If needed, getting my council tax exemption working again
4. Do I still need to attend my jobseekers appointments/what will happen at the meetings if i attend? I'm next due on the 1st November, so have a little time to figure this one out at least.
5. If entitled, getting compensation from my mortgage provider for distress and lost income through the missing jobseekers period (and how I go about following this up).

Currently looking to phone the benefits line in my letter first thing in the morning, but presume I'll be stuck with a drone unable to do much (the whole "You may not appeal this decision" thing ), then call my mortgage provider and chew them out, usual lines about looking to change following their !!!!-up and its consequences etc - generally adding pressure and seeing what they do.

I doubt that threatening to take your business elsewhere to your mortgage lender will do you any good - remember, you are unemployed and not very likely to get a mortgage elsewhere at the moment.

Why don't you try the polite, friendly approach......you might get further.

As for being polite with the DWP - that never works, you are then put to the end of the queue behind those that push, insist and threaten!!

I would've thought threatening would've gotten you booted out the door......you certainly wouldn't get away with threatening me! However, I was actually referring to the mortgage company if you read my post!

    Pension credit?!?
But according to your earlier posts you're a middle aged woman with a 16 year old daughter, you claim ESA and DLA and want your daughter to claim carers allowance for you even though she doesn't fit the criteria.
In one thread you say you work harder being a mum( at least 15 hours a day) than those mothers who go out to work yet you claim you are dissabled and need your daughter/husband to care for you?!?
which is it? your posting is all over the place and every single one contradicts the previous...
your getting to be a total pain in the bum
  • Please can somebody remove "gemstargirl" as a member of this Forum!

All of her posting are total fiction and each thread she adds her opinion to contradicts what she has said in others.

Being unpleasant, rude or abusive gains nothing - if you think that this method is the way to get a result then you are very wrong.

Being assertive is not the same as being abusive or rude. If you present your problem in a reasoned and factual way you will get a fabourable response - you may need to go higher in the structure but you will get the result you want if your request is reasonable and within the law.

Neil - what extra do you need to know? I used bullets as my writing can come across very unclear, so happy to inform further.

Update: Good news, payment will be sent and backdated as soon as Principality do their part.

For the record, I do differentiate between being tough on the company and tough on the poor !!!!!! on the end of the telephone. I do ask for a name/staff number/means of identifying the person who takes my call, and explain it is because I am keeping my own records. No-one has objected thus far. Managers get it rougher if their department has screwed up, especially if initially uncooperative.

I do come across as very assertive/borderline aggressive, as I've sadly found explaining exactly the levels of escalation I will take and the timescales involed if not satisfied right at the start and sticking to it gets *vastly* better results than just escalating at the erroneous company's pace. Never swear, never shout - the call cannot be terminated then. Just keep on doing exactly what I said I would and recapping the story so far along with the company's failure to meet agreed deadlines for action with each call/email and add a query as to why this has been allowed to happen to the original complaints.
