Laptop or desktop?

Hi all

My old dell desktop has finally lost the will to live, I got the blue screen of death this morning! I am wondering whether to replace it with another desktop or a laptop? Budget is tight would ideally like to spend £250 - 300 we mainly use it for surfing, playing online games, kids homework and I sometimes work from home and mainly use Office.

Can anyone (in laymans terms) point me in the right direction for good deals and what spec i should be looking for?

Thanks in advance ;-)

It's been dying for a while. I will see if it is repairable then the kids can yse it in their room, but in the meantime would prefer to replace it.

If you just need it at home and do not need to carry or move it everywhere then I will say Desktop. It is more comfortable to work for long hours, cheaper, large screen/keyboards, etc.

You do get more for your money with a desktop too, but for £300 a laptop should do everything you need, with the benefit of being portable.
Dell generally have decent deals online and you can compare easily.

why wont mse load? just mse? It is not just mse, it took about 20 mins to load IE. think it is about there loading mse.

could you elaborate on dying? Going extremely slow. Crashing when using just 1 program - making a recurrent churning sound (maybe dying wrong word, especially as i am a nurse lol)

what was on the blue screen? Can't recall all message. Something about data dump

those commit figures aren't bad, a hijackthis log might show up something Trying to load page with hijakthis link and will take it from there!

Edited to add: just remembered i have hijakthis saved to desktop it is taking an age to loa thou!
