How old are you?
If someone wants to employ you, they could set the condition that you do an unpaid trial - you would technically be volunteering.
If they take you on as an employee, they have to pay the NMW for your age - though if you are doing an apprenticeship it can be less.0 -

They cant make you do anything,
If they stipulate that they are offering you 2 weeks unpaid work to see how it goes and may give you a job at the end of it, you then have a choice - take it or leave it.
It works both ways, too, at the end of 2 weeks you might just hate it and then leg it.
Pay - depends how old you are.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

They cant make you do the trial but no trial = no job, why not do the trial and do your best. They most likely want to see what your like in the job,0

I'm just wondering if anyone who wants a job in something, do they have to do a unpaid work exp, b4 they get a job?
But I'm willing to show my skills even tho it's been a while lol

If you are returning to work after a break, then work experience and therefore the availability of a current reference can be worth it.
You don't have to accept a job if it is offered after the two weeks - but two weeks' work experience isn't much of a reference but better than a complete gap in your work history.0 -
OP you need to weigh up what you have to lose vs what you have to gain in this situation.
What you have to lose: they may be taking advantage of you, will work you for two weeks with no pay and then no job at the end of it.
What you have to gain: a job, work experience.
Do they seem like a professional company or do you have your reservations? How much do you want the job, bearing in mind how thin on the ground jobs are at the moment.
In my experience it is not usual for companies to recruit people this way, a day's work trial maybe but two weeks is unusual.
Having said that, I don't think this necessarily means there is anything untoward. If you lack experience and this job will give you valuable work experience then even if you don't get the job it may be worth it for the experience alone. But atm companies don't have to search too hard to find people with experience due to the extremely tight labour market, so why are they offering the job to you rather than someone with experience? Is there something else you are offering that has made you stand out from the crowd?
Basically, if you have nothing to lose go for it.0 -

Ur advice has been VERY useful
But now im worried that i could JUST be a 2 week slave lol. I want to work in an office and aint had any work exp in an office at all and this work experince is off the back of Jobseekers (work programme). I ain't had any experince since last year.
I was told BY work programme that i could get the job there if i do well but the lady who i spoke to last wed said to me that there where NO jobs there so im totally lost and don't know WHO to trust

If youre going to work in an office, the worst thing you can do is use the word 'aint' is isn't very professional as well as being very slapdash.
Go for it, its a little experience for your CV.
Good luckmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
