Fiat - exhaust welding costs?

Yesterday my exhaust split where it had been welded together. Had breakdown man out who confirmed it looks just like a basic weld job to stick it all back together. Any ideas on how much this should cost at a garage? As a 21 yr old girl, they tend to take advantage of me!

Or you could go to a welder and say if I flash you will you do the work for free, my MSE tip of the day.0

and if you are concerned about mechanics taking advantage then recruit a male friend to pose as your brother, i'm lucky as a 30 year old male i get much more technical explanations than i can make sense of, i have 2 good garages i can go to, one of them lets me supply my own parts (motor factor or ebay) and charges minimal labourWho remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0

if the weld is rotted away, then the welding job might not be that simple.
if you intend on keeping the car more than the next 6months, then i'd replace the system. and the local exhaust suppliers can quote you for than over the phone.0 -
I know enough about cars to see its definitely not rusted it was just a rubbish weld job somebody did. Located in Birmingham so I don't think I wish to drive this loud thing all the way to east London
It really is just a simple quick weld. I just wish I knew how much welders charged! Will be keeping the car for a while yet but just not got the cash to replace the whole thing yet.0 -
cant imagine it being a huge job if there is no rust involved, probably £20 and some swearing from whoever welding it back together lolWho remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0

If you have a local college that does welding, pop in there and enquire, if you do manage to find someone interested, suggest Oxy-Acetylene process, far better for thin wall exhaust systems. I did a repair (twin cats) on my merc three year ago, still going strong and, once exhaust was off, took no time at all, I still have original front part of exhaust from my other car, which includes the CAT, which now sits in my workshop, when replacement goes, I'll pop on original repaired front part, buy rear section.
You could even ask around some small fab shops, should cost you beer tokens, I would suggest you have exhaust removed first though, if possible.
If you were closer, I could nail it in no time
Ps, most, if not all modern car exhausts are prone to corrode and fracture around original weld eg, pipe into silencer/CAT. I reckon these welds are done by machine, to those, who in good faith have suggested replacing broken part, I say no, till you have checked out all the options, I've saved a fortune alone on my Merc, handy trade at times!!!0 -
