How much to change a conservatory roof?

I have a conservatory with a polycarbonate roof on it and I was thinking about changing the roof pannels for glass ones. Does anyone know how much this might cost (dimensions of the conservatory is approx 10' x 10') and where can I get the new glass pannels from at a reasonable price.

We were quoted for a new roof last year. The room is about 3m x 2.5m and currently has a very dodgy polycarbonate roof on (that leaks!). (The people who lived there before us had the conservatory put up and clearly went for the cheapest option with it. It's not great quality unfortunately.)
for a new metal frame (to increase the angle of the roof slope) would be £200.
The new polycarb would be about £1000.
And the labour for 2 men for 1 day would be £200.
A glass roof would obviously cost more, but the above pricing was more than we expected anyway. So we never had it done in the end.
We are now thinking of having a proper flat roof put onto it. Obviously this would darken the room, but it will be far better for us in the longrun. Most things in life are beyond our control, for everything else there is a spreadsheetson#1 born 04/01/09

Thanks, NicolaC, sounds like it could be pretty expensive. Now that you mention it, a solid roof may be a better option for me too, I'll give it some thought.0

Glass is so much more heavyer than polycarbonate, most conservatory frames are not designed for glass.0

Although ours is called a conservatory it is a third way up built with breeze blocks then wooden window frames that are double glazed and had a poly leaky roof that was too flat as well...Last year we had the roof rebuilt with wooden supports sloped and covered with wood and roofing felt at a cost of under £2000. Inside we used plasterboard and insulation above that then got a plasterer in to skim...excellent room now..If you go for this make sure you get GOOD roofers.Mrs Happy0

We have a conservatory with a polycarbonate roof, and I would love to have a more solid roof.
However, I was told by the council planning office that a conservatory HAS to have an "opaque" roof to be classed as a conservatory and anything else would require planning permission
Has anyone else heard anything like this?0 -
Yes, i've heard it mentioned in several places on the net, I believe there has to be 75% opaque to class as a conservatory. We're looking to convert ours so that we can knock through and enlarge our kitchen... Causing a lot of hassle. Funnily enough though... Orangeries with glass roofs seem ok to have large openings rather than conservatories that should have doors to prevent heat loss.0
