galaxy tab -red triangle

First of all I am not techy minded so be kind to me. I got a get well present of a Galaxy Tab back in May. I have downloaded loads of books from Amazon to read on it. But it has stopped downloading these and a little red triangle with an exclamation mark inside it has appeared at the top of the screen when I switch it on. It is also getting very difficult to conect to the internet. Help please!

It usually means no data connection available, are you within range of wifi/mobile signal?0
