    Thanks Rachelhen. I cannot believe how many people have commented and viewed this thread. I am grateful for everone taking the time out of their day to help me it has really helped me in this tough time.

    I can't believe that this is happening to the OP, I work in an engineering workshop and no group of people is safe from our banter, everybody gets the mick taken out of them. It's all part of making the day pass quicker. If my employer/MD heard any of us having a go at somebody he would more than likely join in with an even more derogatory comment. People need to lighten up and stop being so touchy.

    If your banter includes offensive homophobic comments which are unlawful, whatever you call them, then your MD is the one who needs to consdier his position. It will, sooner or later, be at the wrong end of a tribunal award. I would point out that even the OP has condemned such behaviour in the workplace - his position is that he said nothing and heard nothing, not that it is "ok". And we have to take at face value his statement that had he heard such a comment he would have turned in the culprit himself. "Taking the mick" based on sexual orientation, gender, disability etc is not fun and it is not funny - it is bigotry of the worst kind and unlawful.

    :rotfl:MD is the owner, I doubt his position needs considering.
    Unlawful or not, it IS funny.

    The MD does not own the law, only the company, and he wouldn't be the first and won't be that last to find that out the hard way. And your attitude only proves that you are a troll, an idiot, and possibly both.

    Sounds to me like the manager IS gay, and has a complex about it, so mis-overheard a conversation that was probably about something random, and decided someone was making homophobic comments, and thus reported it.

    Personally I think it's disgraceful that they can't even name the other person who was present, let alone say who allegedly said it, yet are prepared to suspend two of you.

    I presume you're on full pay?

    You should get everyone on board for an "I am Spartacus" moment, with everyone claiming that they were there and all said it. Are they going to sack their entire workforce?!?

    No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    "Troll" don't think so, "Idiot" definitely not. I just happen to have a sense of humour and don't feel obliged to keep the PC brigade happy.

    Amazing. It is bad enough that anyone who mentions they work in the public sectoir is automatically in the wrong. Now the manager is gay, has a complex (I assume you are a doctor to be able to make that diagnosis), and besides which it doesn't matter if it's "only banter". This board plumbs the depths and then simply manages to stoop even lower. Now we have posters who advocate breaking the law because it doesn't apply to their own deluded sense of "fun" and wannbe doctors who make diagnoses based on someone who hasn't even posted!

    Lighten up a bit. We do not even know what the comment was supposed to be. Some people (possibly the manager) do need to get over themselves sometimes.
