Date to apply for new supplier/ Scottish Power question

Hi Peeps,

My energy contract with Scottish Power runs out on the 31st of this month and i will be changing to Ovo.

I understand that the switching process takes a few weeks and my question is this - do i have to wait until the 31st to initiate the switch so that i don`t incurr the charges associated with leaving SP before the end of my contract?

No you don't. it takes 4-5 weeks to switch, so if you do it today then you will not be on supply with Ovo until the end of November now.
It's the date you go on supply that matters-you are still supplied by and in contract with SP until then.
