Marks and Spencer end of day mark-downs?

A friend recently made a passing comment that M&S food halls mark their meal deal foods down to 10p an hour before closing. Before I start lurking around their aisles when I should be home putting kids to bed, does anyone know whether there's any truth to this <forever hopeful>?

My local M&S doesnt do that, the staff take them home if they are running out of date.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. We have 3 m/s near us, all do the markdowns. start about 4.45 pm. However I can assure your they dont go down to 10p in our stores. I visit one of them every evening as I am picking o/h from train station. Bargins are good but they sell out very quickly.SWAGBUCKS STTD 10/11/2013

Ours does
. I got some lovely Sherry Trifle and Smoked Mackerel fillet the other day for 10p each. Did annoy me to see people grabbing trifle off the shelf to give to the SA to check though

GMIL used to work in M&S food up until very recently and she says they marked down 3 times a day but the majority of stock at the end of each day. She still shops there but goes right before they close and picks up joints of meat etc for 50p each! Every time I go they don't seem to mark things down but I think I go too early tbh. They mark all marked down items with a yellow sticker and mix them in with the normal stock in our local branch.Don't Throw Food Away Challenge January 2012 - £0.17 / £10

It's stuff that's due to go out of date that day, in accordance with 'Plan A' - they aim to stop so much waste food going to landfill.
Reductions were always done at different times in my store so it's hard to say what time to go. Sometimes the manager would want the first reductions done when the store opened, sometimes they were done at 4pm. Second reductions were usually 6-7pm. Food to go (sandwiches), in-store bakery and milk were usually done later 7pm ish.
It depends on your stores opening hours of course.
Most of the stuff is freeze-able but some isn't so be careful! M&S dates are shorter than other supermarkets because they don't add preservatives into their food.
I've gotten a few nice bargains on meals, meat and bread, even flowers!0 -
Oh, I so wish M&S would do mark downs at 10p in my local store!
Mind you, you'd never catch me at home hahahahaha!!!I wish I was a glow worm, a glow worm's never glum
Cos how can you be gloomy, when the sun shines out your bum?0 -
I've only seen bread & milk reduced to 10p.0

I never seem to find the 10p bargains in my local M&S0

My local m&$ must reduce stuff just before I get there because when I visit (usually between 4.30pm and 5pm), I see lots of people with the reduced items already in their basket/trolley.
I have never seen reductions as low as 10p.
I do get the odd item but I'm careful as to what I buy. Their reduced labels don't say how much the item originally was so they could stick a reduced label on an item giving only 10 pence off and I expect it would still get bought !
I think my local store closes at 6pm or 6.30pm and I typically find the shelves empty of the reduced items so I guess it all sells and they don't need to reduce it even further.0
