NCP Ipswich- Parking ticket

Hello all,

Just got back from a friend's in Ipswich. Parked up in a deserted NCP car park, went to pay the ticket, but found out half the change I had wouldn't go through the machine. Running late, and it being 19:30, I thought I'd chance it. Of course, got back to that lovely yellow sticker.

The general advice seems to be to ignore these tickets, but I was curious where I stand. I did make an attempt (admittedly half-hearted) to pay, and I would like to send a cheque or postal order for what the parking would've cost (£3.20). That seems fair to me. But, I don't want to open myself up to the £50/£100 'penalty', when as far as I can tell I'm only contractually obliged to pay 'losses'.

All the best,
Chuck

  • Ignore it. It's not your fault if their machine didn't work. Contacting them will only encourage more threatograms.
  • They will either a) send the cheque back along with the increased bill for £50.00 or b) keep the cheque and still send a bill for £50.00. Just ignore them.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • Thank you both for your replies and help.

I'll take your advice and ignore the letters... I do feel guilty as I would like to pay for the parking, because I'm not one who thinks they're owed something for nothing. But if paying the £3.20 is going to invite more letters and demands for the 'full' amount, then I'd rather save myself the hassle.

    Much love,
    Chuck

If you feel that strongly about handing over some money then give to a charity or a "Big Issue" seller.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Remember, you are not dealing with a reasonable company (even in NCP), so you should probably drop the guilty feeling because if you even try to send them the money, they will turn it down because they want more cash and, for a bit of effort on their part on an unsuspecting member of the public, this options usually works 65% of the time!

If you want to feel better, as 27col say, give some money to charity instead.
  • That's actually a really good idea, cheers guys!
