Barclays/Lloyds: At what stage of application do you apply for BT?

Hi,
I am thinking about applying for a new credit card to do a Balance Transfer: Barclaycard's 22 month offer with £40 is particularly fascinating, if not Lloyds' 15 month is acceptable too.
For both card providers, when is the earliest stage that I can specify my Balance Transfers? Is it
i) During the Online Application, after knowing my Credit Limit
ii) During the Online Application, but before knowing my Credit Limit
iii) After I receive the card?
The reason I am asking is: I need to do a Balance Transfer relatively soon, and while Barclay's do offer the best deal, it is only so if I can transfer more than £3000 - if they give me a limit less than that, the Lloyds deal appears better. (And I can take a hit from 2 applications - my Lloyds deal is guaranteed and furthermore I have no need for any applications for a long time).
Thanks for any advice!

First thing is to get accepted for the card.
Then you should know what limit you are getting then you can apply to do a balance transfer.
If you bank with Barclays or Lloyds they should be able to tell you whether you will be accepted without doing a credit score on you.0
