Yes it is common for an accountant to offer their own address as a registered office address for a client.
It's called related sales, or upselling, and how business works. Great business for the accountant who will be charging for this (and probably will offer to take care of the name plate too ... for an additional fee.)
It may be a common practice in the cheaper end of the market - the kind of firms that offer low prices on the internet but then charge for lots of extras - many don't even include a balance sheet as part of their "competitive" pricing. They charge for virtually everything, from registered office, to providing references and even extra copies of accounts.
However, most respectable firms don't charge for these extras. I've worked in five small chartered practices over the past 30 years and never seen extra charges for a registered office address, and rarely for references (when there is extra work to do).
I now run my own practice and don't charge for such extras.
Just shop around and check exactly what you're getting for your money when you are close to signing up with an accountant. All qualified firms will give you a letter of engagement outlining exactly what the fees include and what, if any, will be charged as extras.0 -

I use my accountant's adress and like Pennywise says, I don't have to pay extra for this service.0 -
I believe company formation is a good idea, as you may pay no income tax for upto around £42K take home assuming this is your only income. There are many company formation agents in UK like Company Formations 123 or Duport or Complete Formations who can deal with your registered office problems cheaply. Worth having a try. Good luck.0
