Dont worry about the occasional growl, its just to put him in his place in the pecking order. My two boys love each other to bits, but the longest resident one (disabled from birth) is without doubt top dog and he lets the other know now and then :)

Why so many homes? Did the rescue tell you? Beagles arent easy dogs but that seems an unusual amount of shifting on

Oh, have you got them both insured now?

He's had so many homes because he's 'aggressive', 'bites', 'barks at everything', 'hates men' - he's been here 9 days and yes he will nip if you try to take something from him that he shouldn't have - so we put everything out of his reach and 'bribe' with a tasty treat if he does get hold of anything - you've never seen a dog drop something so quickly!

The other 'problems' I've listed - I think he's afraid of everything when we are out walking, probably because he's never been socialised properly (like beagle no 1) so we are used to dealing with that - she's pretty good now (but still has an aversion to large black dogs for some reason!) The rescue did warn us repeatedly of his 'problems' - but we now think they were reasons given to justify him being given up.

All the growling seems to have gone today - it's lovely to see them together! Although no 1 will not let him share her place sleeping next to DH's side of the bed - he is her property and will not share! He ended up shifting his bed round to my side of the room!

Insurance we are looking into - we cannot get no 1 insured due to the cancer she had earlier this year - the companies that would quote wanted silly money, so we are putting money away every month to cover any further treatment - getting her insured in the first place was over expensive in view of her age and no medical history - seemed to be a license to print money as far as they were concerned. All they kept saying was beagles are expensive to insure because they have so many medical problems - none of our beagle owning friends have had problems with theirs! We are currently looking into insurance for no 2, before he gets to that 'expensive' age.

Overall we are glad we took him on - we are hopeful we can sort him out - although there doesn't seem to be much 'sorting' to do - I think he was the result of people wanting a perfect dog without any input or patience on their part, sad really but we have gained a lovely dog!
