^^^^ depends on the router - you are lucky in that you have an easy option to use a different MAC - most routers would need the config file editing :( There's a thread on kitz (I think) forums recently about just such issues.

just out of interest, what router's interface is that you're using ??

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

It's a DrayTek, similar options exist on some of the higher end Netgears too :)

http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/ is always a very helpful place to start (normally the first with router information, etc)

Yeah you should be allowed to use whatever equipment you like, but I reckon I've got the same router (this year) and have found that the signal is pretty good. I think you should experiment more with the channels. You do know that, for example, channel 8 will interfere with channels 6, 7, 9 and 10? With a few neighbours with WiFi, that soon adds up. Give each channel a full day to test. Is it near other electrical equipment?

The T&C's are more explicit than that. You break them by just using another router other than the supplied one. This is partly why they lock down the username/pword within the firmware. The other reason is that the routers have been set up for "future services", probably direct connection to the sky box for stuff like streaming and other stuff.

It was certainly enough of a reason for me not to go to sky for my bb :(

I rang Sky when i first though about setting up my own router and the engineer advised me that i could but i just lose Sky Support.

When i moved into my own house in April I wanted Sky TV with sports, and fibre optic broadband and a basic phone package, my cheapest deal was tv with sky, phone and broadband with BT. Was £18 a month more expensive with Virgin, which surprised me...

Getting your username and password can be a piece of cake for many subscribers

    https://www.cm9.net/skypass/

It is a safe site to use, enter your modem details and you might get the adsl log in and adsl password needed to setup another non Sky modem. It worked for me on my Sky DG934 modem.

it won't help when Sky change MER authentication as Gunjack has mentioned, but it will help for the time being!
