Looking to buy this in the next few days.
Can anyone tell me if they think the prices may go down. It's 199 right now at Dixons but wondering if it will go down
Also if anyone has this... what do they think? Seen great reviews
And is there anywhere I can do with a 2G RAM and get it fitted? It comes with 1 and I don't want to mess it up doing it myself.
Thank u

i have the aspire one d260 netbook and its been great. I know everyone rants about adding more ram but to be honest i have never noticed any slowing down, suppose it depends what you use it for, I just do general surfing, emails, downloading photos and using google earth.0

I have one of these in red. I bought after reading loads of review's, it seems to come highly recommended.
Nice looking, very light and portable. I found it to be quite slow though. I upgraded the Ram to 2gb myself with
guidance of a great Youtube video.
Bought RAM from Play.com - £16, You need a patience and a small screwdriver.
Its so much faster now and very handy for me to take to library and lectures.0 -
How long have you had it and it's very reliable I take it. I will mostly be using it for skype calls voice and at times video. So a RAM upgrade is needed.littlemissfavored wrote: »I have one of these in red. I bought after reading loads of review's, it seems to come highly recommended.

i was looking at it as well for the kids....
how slow is it..?? the kids will only use it for things like cbbc games and i was hoping to set them up with skype so i can talk to them over it.
would i need to consider the upgrading of the ram...??0 -
That's a different netbook. It's so confusing! Took me a while to figure it out too.hiya, they are cheaper than that at currys....

The one I want is a DUAL CORE n550.
The link you just gave me was a single core n450 Which means it is slower. And looks like your kids will be using it the same as me.. games and skype!
So the one I would recommend is that n550 processor and you can change the ram too as someone said earlier it's fiddly but easy with a good youtube video.
And ram doesn't cost much at all.
Let me know if you decide to buy it. I'm still thinking.... but most likely I will
Also if anyone knows a better netbook for skype for around the same price let me know. Or this one for cheaper

I've also read alot of great reviews about it.
I have had it for about 4 weeks., bought on ebay.
Its my secondary laptop. Only tend to use it if I need on the move, or when DS take my other one-like now!
As for speed, to be honest 'slow' is a relative term. Especially from someone like me who I confess is quite impatient! Also, since my primary laptop is 4gb, in comparison it was slow.
It struggled to multitask, it was hard having 3 windows open and would hang often.
But since I upgraded it its soooooo much better and faster. Definitely worth upgrading if you get it. Check YT vid- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KYNTvF0-5M
A bit fuzzy, but still a gem, he recommends the exact RAM to buy in the notes.
BTW I have the single core N450 processor 160gb hard disk, so the dual core/ 250 gb will even be better.
I can recommend this laptop for your purposes. Does what it says on the tin, very light and portable, boots to both windows and Android, works great on WiFi, I also use my phone as modem when on the move, it works great.
Its nice looking (very important!!) ideal for children. Also remember there is no CD drive, you can get external if you need, i havent had reason to.0 -
ok... im confused now...

It's not £40 cheaper just because of the processor. It only has a three cell battery, as opposed to the six cell.
So battery life is halved.
Depends on what is important to you.
I'm not keen on that model(D255) precisely because of the difficulty involved in updating the RAM.
Though personally I have not had the pleasure of attempting it.0 -
You can get a 2 g/b memory stick from Crucial at under £10 inc p&p. Their website will check your netbook and identify the correct version for you.

and select the UK. I ordered mine one day and it arrived the following morning.
Replacement is a bit tricky (in fact the Acer site says you can't do it) as it involves removing the keyboard. As mentioned above, there are some useful UTube videos covering this but make sure you select the right netbook as each one seems to have a different way of changing it.
I found it very frustrating trying to unclip the keyboard and thought I was going to break something - just take it easy and be very patient - it's the upper left clip that is the problem as it doesn't retract.0 -
Thank you! I'm waiting delivery. I will update you if it all breaks so I can blame you and make myself feel betterYou can get a 2 g/b memory stick from Crucial at under £10 inc p&p. Their website will check your netbook and identify the correct version for you.
