Toucan now part of the Pipex/Homecall group are the cheapest supplier of line rental at the moment.Although it is generally considered that its not a good idea to move your line rental from BT.

Personally, I'm a little confused about Toucan's line rental (which appears to be 'from' £8.99/month BTW).

    Their FAQs state:
    What about my line rental?
ToucanTalk includes your line rental. So you can enjoy the convenience of receiving your line rental and call charges, all on the same Toucan bill, with no set up charges or changes to your phone line and number.
    But, they also state:
Can I override my ToucanTalk service once my telephone has been diverted to Toucan?
Yes, you can use BT at any time by dialing 1280 before the number you want to dial. BT will charge you for these calls.
Now, if you allow Toucan to take over your line rental, you won't have an account with BT any longer so how:

    (1) can using the 1280 prefix work?
    (2) can BT bill you?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
