Price increases as soon as you switch
There has been a lot of publicity in the past couple of weeks concerning switching.
One thing no-one tells you is that as soon as you sign up to someone new, they put up the prices, so what is the point !
Last year I switched to Scottish Power, they increased the prices to more than I was paying before I had even had my first bill.
This year I have switched to Co-op Energy - just the same, prices up within 2 months, and when I also switched my mothers account, they have increased her prices before she has fully switched.
With all the hassle it causes, changing direct debits, getting refunds, working out all the figures etc etc, you just can't win. It's like dealing with gangsters. RANT OVER !

That is because you beleive switching is always going to save you money, I'm with BG for gas and npower for leccy, OVO looked cheap at the time, when I called about switching they said the DD would be much more than what I was paying , just as well I didn't switch as I soon saw many horror stories on here, Co-op never ever claimed to be the cheapest, just offered nice round figures (even though th price plans were not competitive).0

That's why you should look at Uswitch. But you need to have a reasonable idea as to how many kwh of gas and elec you use pa. After switching from EDF to Npower last December after they had just put up their tarriffs and going with one of their plans I'm saving about £60 pa which is worth it.0

For as long as you are on a variable tariff, the price can change at any time. If you want a fixed rate, use a fixed tariff.
You can hardly have been unaware that the big 6 have all raised their prices over the autumn, and the smaller suppliers then follow suit.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Lots of very clever people out there. why not just keep your comments to yourself if you have nothing positive to add !0

Posts #2 , #4 and #5 were positive
As one poster pointed out, variable tariffs will always be variable, fixed tariffs remain fixed for a certain time although these maybe more pricey than variable tariffs.0 -

Also some people need to use the nut a little more.
When SP put their prices up, people immediately jumped onto USwitch and changed supplier..... then as above poster is bewildered when the new company subsequently put their prices up.
We all know energy companies put their prices up at the same time, so thier is no point jumping ship or comparing til all companies have shown their hand.Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -

Now adding to the ignore list"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Agreed. When you switch in the middle of price rises, you should get your new tariff fixed, even though a variable tariff (whatever that means). In addition, if they try to put prices up, they should be fined £10m to be shared between all recent switchers.
It's really unfair. Just because you signed to a variable tariff, they think they can simply go and vary the tariff.
I would simply tell these greedy suppliers to cut prices in half. Hit them where it hurts.
There - is that positive enough? Load of cack of course, but I'm sure it's what you want to read.
PS Look up 'fixed' and 'variable' in the dictionary, you don't have to be a smart !!!! to advise that, and neither a smart !!!! to realise that the pressures causing one supplier to increase prices will likely affect all of them, so switching to another variable tariff before they've all raised their prices is likely to be pretty pointless.0
