Estimating Electricity Consumption
Does any kind person have an idea why NPower would be estimating an additional 21% usage the coming 6 months over the last? No electric heating or cooking and with the gas heating on, less use of the immersion heating.
Anybody ever managed to challenge this? My bill has gone from £27 to £43/month. I'll be out of there as soon as I've had my £50 next month but I suspect that everyone else will be working off the same weird estimation
TIA

I don't know about nPower but when I used to pay a fixed amount the change would be based on the previous period. For example if you'd paid £27 a month for 6 months and your actually usage has averaged £35 a month they would increase it by £8 to cover the dept and £8 to cover the increase.0

Well if you earn your "deferred discount" next month (and are not in a fixed term contract) you couldn't be in a better negotiating position, though personally I would advise taking the opportunity to dump a "deferred discount" tariff.
Regarding the "additional 21% usage", how *exactly* was that communicated? As a single fuel customer is it possible they have you down as using electric heating? Was there an account debit balance (or inadequate end of summer credit balance)? Has your tariff been subject to an increase? Are you on a tariff with seasonal weighting of primary units?
You are entitled to an accurate calculation and a clear explanation. If you are not satisfied ask for an explanation "as required by Standard Licence Condition (SLC)27.14" and complain in writing (or by email) if you are not satisfied with the response.0
