Hi all :D

I currently have a Epson DX4850 that is working but the print outs aren't great mainly because the magenta is not working (tried head cleaning lots of times etc. still blocked!) I want an Epson one where you can get cheap as chips compatibles for it, needs to be All in One + Wi-Fi too.

I have looked through the forum and can see that there are already a few threads about this and people recommending the SX515W which you can still get on eBay etc.

I like the look of the new Epson all in ones like this SX435W as they are smaller which would be handy but as far as I can see you just can't get cheap ink for them.

RenderBlob&TYPE=EpsonImage&OBJECTID=1228076752732

So do you think that it would be worth me making do and waiting a few months would there be likely to be cheap compatibles that become available for the newer models in the meantime? Or should I just grab an SX515W now while I still can?

Or are there any of the other new models that you can get cheap compatibles for?

Any advice appreciated as I can't make my mind up! :o;)

Not sure what prices you have for the others, but you could look at this, though bear in mind amazon prices are volatile so it may not stay at this price, though I doubt it will go much lower, if any

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Epson-Stylus-PX720WD-Printer-Duplex/dp/B003YLHWFS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319296219&sr=8-1

One option for the inks are here, thogh check for other prices, though these have 19ml of ink per cartridge so take that in to account as well

    http://stores.ebay.co.uk/REXTRAS-LTD/Replace-forT0807-Hummingbird-/_i.html?rt=nc&_fsub=1443312014&_sid=859856154&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14&_sop=15&_sc=1

If you use photo paper, this is a competitive supplier, though check for other prices

The compatibles for the SX435W are expensive in comparison to most other Epson Printers

Thanks for your help Santer! :)

I had somehow missed the model you mentioned having cheap cartridges it looks very good has excellent reviews etc. it takes 6 cartridges at a time as opposed to 4 so it would also be a bit dearer to run. I was seriously considering it then I realised despite the fact it looks compact it's actually 10cm deeper than the current Epson All in One I have so not enough room for it!

Anyway, since I have literally looked on eBay for compatible cartridges for the other 5-6 latest Epson Wi-Fi / All in Ones and the cheapest you can get them is £7-8 PER set where as for the my current printer or the SX515W you can get 3 or 4 sets for that price!

So it looks like the SX515W is my only available choice really? Unless anyone thinks that it is likely that someone will start selling really cheap ink for the SX435W or SX445W in the next month or two? And I put up with my current printer for a while longer?

    ps. I'm not being tight!!:o :p

I do realise that £7 a set is ok, but the thing I have been using my printer for most recently is printing money off vouchers so realistically the more the ink costs me the less I'm saving! ;) :rotfl:

Nothing wrong with the SX515W, especially if you mainly print coupons etc

    Thank You for the update

    Hope it goes well
  • All of the epson printers have compatible cartridges available for them, most new models continue to take older cartridges and it is the electronics and gismos that change between models. If they're are using new cartridges it will be a lot less than "months" before people start making knock offs.

Obviously with any third party copies there will be a variety of qualities, some are potentially perfect, others will potentially break your machine.

It took them ages to make " knock offs " for the SX425W and then at much more than other compatibles, same applies to a number of the recent Epson printers as they seem to be saddled with the T1295 set of inks, though those printers seem to be reduced at the moment

Yes i agree. I have one of the above printers and thanks to your link a while ago i now pay about £8 per set of inks instead of about £30 from Rextra s . So thanks again :)
