Additional Excess

Options
A friend of mine has crashed their 1 year old Fiat. They took it to the dealer who has a body shop on site. Nothing major, £900 plus vat.
£200 excess to pay, but thats life.
Next thing, a call from the indian call centre working for the insurer saying that there is an additional excess of £200 for using a non approved body shop.
He asked if the insurers repairer would use genuine Fiat parts and repair techniques. No, they would fit after market parts. Would they pay the reduction in value for their car having a substandard repair? No.
Treating customers fairly? No!
Will he renew with them? Not a chance!

If this is out of the blue, then don't accept it!

But if it is part of the accepted policy conditions (which will be the case if it's with aviva), then you have no gripes!
  • Totally agree, that's why I bought a proper policy. He shopped with saving money in mind and this has now cost him far more than he saved on the policy.
Car insurance isn't a commodity, you really do get what you pay for when it comes to insurance.
