I think I'd definatly get an outside cabin as I think I'd get too clostrophobic in an inside one! I've booked a cruise on the Thomson Destiny now but I'm still considering going on an ocean village one for next year. There seems to be quite a few deals around but as this will be my first proper cruise I'm not entirly sure whats a good deal and whats not in the cruise world!

    standard prices on OV and Thomson I would say (OK, guess!) is;
    Med/Canaries £500-£600 1 week, £1000 2 weeks.
    Caribbean £600 1 week, £1200 2 weeks.

Anything under this is good. Mind you it depends on cabin, season and boat so dont get  at me if you paid more than this :p

    Have a good holiday!

I paid just over that but we did request an upgraded cabin and All-inclusive option so I'm happy - thanks!

Resurrecting this rather than starting a new thread....

OH and I are thinking of going on a cruise in Aug/Sep this year. Of those who have been on Ocean Village cruises, how do their prices on board (drinks, excursions etc) compare with others such as Thomson (the only other cruise line we've been on).

The lack of formality isn't a problem, personally I've found the 'captain's evenings' about as appealing as the lifeboat drill. Also, are the excursions expensive?

Here is a price list and if you go here you can see all the excursions and how much they cost.

I would say about the same as Thomson, but some more adventurous excursions!

Sadly, you will still have the lifeboat drill!!

Most of the people on board are the type you would find at butlins.

So lots of happy families having fun then :T

I don't see why Cruises have to be exclusive for those who 'aren't Butlins types' and are now available to all.

    Have a great time!

    IMO Terrible.
Casual should not mean a drop in standards. Had better food in tescos canteen . Most of the people on board are the type you would find at butlins.
Not allowed to take alcohol on board so you have to buy it on the ship at very high prices.

I go to #Butlins ! so what are you saying? that we are working class?
