My mate still has the second hand furniture, as does my sister. Infact my sisters sofa is a good 20 years old, as it's a hand me down from my parents. Mine is an uncomfortable DFS reject from a back room off from the show room, which I got delivered for £200.
I don't have sky. I don't have an iphone. I do have a blackberry, but my work requires it and it's £14.95 a month.
The people on this thread have also told you they don't go out. Don't have all the things we supposedly have. But it's ignored and were simply told we do, regardless....I assume because you see a handful of 20 somethings living it large on the TV.
No, because I have two girls in their late 20's, and I see and hear how they talk and how their friends talk. How many of them moan about being skint and not being able to save but in the next breath tell you about the holiday they just booked in Ibiza/bought a (enter brand name) handbag and such like. I am sure they are not the only young peoole doing this?Dont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing'0 -

Just a couple of paragraphs
Do you deny it, or not?
If not, what are you arguing?
One piece of data that is required is what percentage of wealth was held by people in mid working life to end of working life in previous generations.
It does not surprise me to be honest that the eldest will be the richest.
Chances are our generation will be similar at 50-70 years old, but life expectancy will be 90+0 -

No there are quite a few young people doing this, just as there are quite a few who save every penny they can and do without luxuries.0 -

I never said that. You are having to resort to twisting words now, and see you are avoiding questions too0 -

It's absolutely not about the oldest now being the richest!!!
They have had more time to earn that money. Thats a given. No one is arguing that.
It's everything else in the article. I really do give up. Obviously ignorance is the order of the day.0 -

To be fair to Graham I know 45 year olds who do the same. Obviously it take all types to make up the world and in general I would say young people spend and expect more, that’s not to say there isn’t a large number who don’t. I’m not saying it isn’t tough now but it has been tough in the past and it is just irritating to us older people when we are told that we had it so easy as it is to you when people say you all waste your money on luxuries.0 -

That was the point I was trying to get across in my first post, as in you can't blame the boomers and you can't blame the young. It's circumstances.
The only people you can blame are those that have tried to milk it more (BTL's) through their good fortune, politicians, and those of my age who took every bit of credit they could get and were bankrupt at 25.
But, since saying that, I seem to have been somewhat "attaked" as it were, so got bored and attacked back. Think what you said, about just as goading is spot on. At least some of us have tried to look at the problems instead of just attacking one another, calling others morons and then calling my parents !!!!heads.
The Iphone / Technology is the most irritating argument of them all, as every generation has had new technology, and regardless of what people say, people have bought it. High street shops have done well off it. There is no point simpoly smearing a whole generation because of your own prejudice's. Suggesting people should simply do without phones, because "we did in the 1980's" is ridiculous. What next? Should we be washing our clothes by hand in the local rivers too to save money?0 -

It was all a bed of roses being a youngster in 1980-85, good job they brought out that Youth Opportunities scheme'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

I can also tell you, the people you (collectively) seem intent on highlighting are unlikely to have a young family and unlikley to want one at such a young age and are just enjoying themselves. Your generation had exactly the same. Please don't deny it, as there is enough evidence out there to suggest there was a party scene in the 60's, 70's 80's and 90's.
The biggest influences on an individuals wealth (other than having rich parents) are the actions they take and the choices they make.
If you (royal you) are unhappy with your lot then you need to decide what the best course of action is to improve your situation. What about getting a better paid job, doing more overtime, improving qualifications and the like?0
