Help with the V5C registration form please!
Hi,
Please could someone clarify what the V5C DVLA form actually is?? I just passed my test. My Mum is out of the country and said I can use her car in the meantime. She said that she was the owner and I would be the registered keeper.
However, the guy who just dropped it off to me (her friend) helped me fill out the V5C form, which says about the 'NEW Keeper'. I asked him and he insisted that this means I now OWN the car (he was originally going to put it into auction for her and said this form would be given to the new owner).
I have had a look online and am now even more confused! Looking on the DVLA website, I found the following:
What is the V5C?

Registered Keeper is just that. The registered keeper. Does not mean owner.0

You would be the registered keeper (also the new keeper as your mum was the old keeper).
You could only be the owner if she gave the car to you or you bought it from her.
'The guy who dropped it off' is wrong.0 -
Registered keeper is usually the owner but not always.
Some insureres wont cover if the car is not registered in your name, Online comparison sites usually
insist the car is owned and registered to you before they will quote.
Some insurers may charge you a lot more to cover a car thats not legally yours.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
