Hmm, member since 19-Oct-11 and selling item that'll likely reach £3000 to £4000.

Yet people still bid. I suppose they could always just refuse to pay if the seller refuses paypal, but I really don't see why some buyers are so very eager to potentially lose money. I am beginning to lose a little bit of sympathy with buyers who almost beg to have problems.

I wouldn't be surprised are intending to simply pay by paypal, and INR if they don't receive it. The dodginess would probably scare off a good proportion if not the majority of bidders. Hence the item may sell for a bargain price. The winner then pays by paypal, and if the seller tries anything, just refuses any alternate payments.

Personally I wouldn't take £700 in cash to a stranger's house without some way of paying it into a bank.

I'd take £7 or maybe £70 but that sort of money I'd rather arrange to pay without having to physically handle it.

why not? once you've handed it over it's not up to you to make sure they pay it into the bank and not everybody will want to put it in the bank.

Sellers are not permitted to refuse nor discourage PayPal - its a breach of policy. However, such terms are sometimes used by scammers who know that there's a good chance experienced eBayers will avoid such listings, and an inexperienced eBayer will end up winning, and just agree to do a bank transfer, forfeiting their buyer protection.

One day I'd like to have a bit of fun with a poor quality seller. In this case, I could bid, pay by paypal and say all nice and innocent like "I understand you have trouble with paypal, so I'm happy to wait for up to five days for you to dispatch the goods while you sort the problem." And then after seven days when the seller is badgering me to pay by bank transfer or to give positive feedback before the goods are dispatched say "now look here, I've given you five days already and I'm happy to give a few more, but I've paid, I've given you time to sort your problems, and I expect you to dispatch the goods."
