sky+ and emmerdale

Is anyone else having problems when it comes to recording emmerdale ?

my gf's mum has recently had sky+ installed and it worked fine until last week. Now whenever she tries to record emmerdale is never seems to stop recording until you pull the plug and comes up with an error message saying that emmerdale has clashed with anything else you try and record that day.

It works fine when it comes to recording anything else.

Any ideas ? Don't really wanna have to go through sky if we can aviod it..

cheers

Welcome to the wacky world of Sky+.

Sky+ is great when it works, unfortunately it is as flaky as that Cadbury chocolate bar.

Your gf's mum has embarked on a journey of frustration, confusion and irritation during which she may spend more time trying to get Sky+ to work properly than actually watching programmes.

She must complain to Sky, if for no other reason than to try and eradicate their fantasy that Sky+ is a perfect product that only fails because we have somehow abused it.

She could try a planner rebuild, a forced software download or, in extremis, a full system reset. The latter will erase all her recordings, series links etc.

Access the hidden menu by pressing “Services 4 01 select”. The box does not react to the “0 1” until you press select so ignore the screen.

Option 7 is “Sky+ planner rebuild”. Try that. It shouldn’t erase recordings, though sometimes it does.

Option 8 is “Full System reset” This will erase everything so only do this if nothing else works. Try a forced software update first.

    Forced Software Update

    1. Power off the Sky+ STB

    2. Remove the viewing card

    3. Press and hold the Back-up button

    4. Whilst holding the Back-up Button, switch the power to the STB ON

    5. When all four lights appear on the STB, release the Back-up button a message will appear on the screen stating an update is taking place and that it can take 10 minutes (but it can take longer)

    6. When the box goes back to a single red light, leave it at least a full minute.

    7. Insert the Viewing Card, check orientation is correct.

    8. Switch out of Standby using the Sky button on your remote control. The box will switch to channel 998 - the Sky demo channel (it may say “Searching for listings” - don't worry - wait)

9.When that clears, do a Services – 4 – 5 check to see the Operating System Version and/or EPG Software Version numbers have updated (the Model Number may also have changed).

    Good luck.

i do occassionally have problems with my sky plus but it works most of the time, and works well when it does.

it did once record a 30 min programme for 8 hours, used 42% of my box, luckily it didnt cause anything else not to record.

Emmerdale also failed to record for me one day last week. No problem recording anything else that evening or since then.
Will try and record Emmerdale again tomorrow and see what happens.

  • I have Sky + and I've known it not record when the weather is bad.
Due to the storms we've had, CD02, could it be down to this? Also once, during a storm last summer, I was recording something and the box shut downpart way thru. it took 5 mins to get it back on properly at which point it started recording the program again.
Weird thing was that when i came to watch the program, it stated that it hadn't recorded it all - was interrupted by lack of signal. When i watched the program (Dr Who I think) it hadn't missed any of it?!? :D

Strange - the world of Sky +. Must admit tho, had it for over 2 years and mainly happy with it.

I always have problems when recording anything from channel 4, it constantly jumps and pixelates. Complained to Sky and they said they will send someone round to re-align the LNB on the dish for £65. Unfortunately i haven't taken out their insurance, sod it i'll have a go at sorting it myself!

I had that problem, they wanted to charge me £65 for someone to have a look at it. I told them that as I was a customer for 4 years on the highest package they have, I wasn't prepared to pay £65, so I told them I was going to cancel.
Ended up getting through to cancelations, and then they said they would do the call out for free.

Try it, they can only say no.,
