my mum has been getting middle rate DLA for years .
Can she also claim AA .If not which one pays the most.

DLA is claimed by people under 65 and has three rates. The amount received depends on how much care is needed.

AA is claimed by people over 65. There are two rates - the lower rate is equivilent to the middle rate of care for DLA and the higher rate is the same amount as the higher rate of care for DLA.

If you care receiving DLA before you are 65, and receive the mobility component as well as the care component, you can continue to claim DLA after 65. There is no mobility component for AA.

She cannot switch from one to the other, but if her needs have increased then she can apply to have her DLA reviewed. Be aware though, when you ask for them to look at the claim again the Decision Maker will look at the whole of the claim, not just the part you have asked them to look at, and as such the award could increase or decrease, last for a longer or shorter time, or in some circumstances stop altogether. It is important to include as much information as possible in the claim pack.....perhaps keep a diary for a week or two which clearly shows the care needs.
