I was at Peterborough Extra tonight and this was confirmed by customer services. No vouchers will be accepted unless they state Tesco's on them - one checkout operator also told me this included manufacturers coupons, but clearly she had this wrong. All staff have been told from Sunday onwards no vouchers will be accepted, so I can see there will be a period where other operators will be confused and may refuse to accept manufacturer coupons too. Apparently Tesco's are fed up with people using lots of competitors vouchers and feel they are losing too much money.
  • This is the official policy communicated to staff:

From Monday, 31 October we will no longer accept coupons from other retailers. This includes all types of coupons issued by Sainsbury’s, ASDA, Morrisons, Waitrose, Marks and Spencer, Co-op , Aldi etc, including their spend and save, Brand Match and Price Guarantee vouchers.
We have made this change because:
    - We are committed to helping our customers spend less and always having the best price on their favourite brands and on our own label ranges.
    - We have already dropped the price on the nation’s shopping list with over 3000 ‘Price Drops’ which are simple and straightforward. Everyone saves, every basket gets cheaper and we want to continue investing in great prices for our customers rather than in refunding our competitors’ vouchers.
    - We have seen a significant increase in the amount of coupons our competitors are issuing, not least as they are having to refund their customers when we are cheaper than them.
    - We are the only retailer to accept competitor coupons
The new Tesco coupon policy is simple - we accept all Tesco and supplier /product coupons as long as the customer has purchased the product. We will continue to issue, and therefore accept, Tesco Price Check coupons to our customers in the rare occasion their shopping would have been cheaper in Asda and will continue to invest a huge amount in rewarding our customers with Tesco spend and save and Clubcard points coupons.

oh dear, I'll be going back to Asda. I've been using £2 off £20 spend vouchers that Sainsburys issue in Tesco, so Asda will be cheaper for us now.
Thanks for letting us know, saves me abandoning a trolley load of stuff at tthe checkout.
  • last night warwick tesco refused my £23.12 asda price guarantee and £5 off £40 spend bonus voucher. I asked if they were still taking sainsbury conditonal spend and they said yes so went home to get a £2 off £20 spend. got 2 "hp black ink 301" 10.97 each (plus 500 extra points for 2) and a 10p strawberry whip and paid for most of it with a £19.95 tesco price check voucher.

then off to asda where I had to pay £11.98 cash on my £40.10 shop

Can I just check that I should still be OK on Sunday to use my final £4 off a £20 shop Sainsbury's voucher in Tesco?

    Thanks

  • It was confirmed to me today by the SA at Peterborough Extra that today was the last day that Tescos will be accepting Sainsbury's vouchers.

Fortunately, I was also using my last Sainsbury's voucher today too, and had timed it well to use with my £15, £5 and £2 Tesco vouchers to give me a nice £30 discount from my shop!

Back to Morrisons for me next week as its closer and I only went to Tescos because of the coupons that I had!

Used my Waitrose £5 off a £30 shop today, thought I'd better get in quick. The SA confirmed this was the last day. Shame, I'll shop there less now and use Morrisons more as I prefer Mr M!!!

I tried to use a manufacturer coupon today - printed out from an e-mail that was sent directly to me from the manufacturer and the staff at Tesco said that they weren't accepting ANY coupons except Tesco ones!!! Are the staff confused by the new directive?

(And I never realised that you could use other supermarkets coupons at Tescos! ...well not anymore I suppose)

If this is the case, does it mean that coupons printed from beforeishop, coupon net etc are useless at Tescos?
