BT wont let us end contract

We have been with Bt for a couple of months and have had nothing but trouble. We were originally offered unlimited broadband, line rental, caller display and unlimited calls for around £26 monthly.
Every bill we have since received has been between £35-£45 a month. We get charged for going over 10GB evey month, charged for calls etc. Does anyone know of a way we can end this contract with the most unhelpful company who want to charge us £200 to end contact. Please this is causing an awful lot of stress.

If you're getting what the contract says in terms of service etc then you'll probably have to buy yourselves out.

Have you checked the terms of what you signed up for as it sounds as if you're on a limited package, certainly regarding download limits. Do you have something, a letter or email that says what you should be getting that you can go to BT with because it looks like at the moment you're signed up to this package - http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=25633&packid=bb1-uewp-so

If you are on the 'basic' package, can you negotiate an upgrade or reduce your broadband & call usage to keep within the limits?

The only way you may be able to end early is when you are notified of the price increases
You MUST contact BT within 10 days of notification
Don't mention about being charged for overusage or extra calls etc, only that the increases causes a change to your material disadvantage.

There are a couple of problems with that though:

    1. The broadband price is not being increased so you'd have to keep that.
    2. You can't have BT broadband without a BT line.

    Hence, you're trapped.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
