Hi guys
I just thought that I should put something in about when I received a phone call from Virgin the other asking me to take up calls unlimited with them.
After telling the customer service advisor that I had previously had this but my costs of phone calls were still rising I decided to get rid of it.
He then asked me did u used to phone people in my local area, I said yes all the time, then he asked me did I dial the local area code in beforehand I said no as I thought that I didn't need to.
He then looked at my last years bills and he told me that I have been charged for every local call that I had made as in never put the local dialing code in first.
I decided to sign up for it this time but I'm making sure that form now on when I phone someone in my local area I will put the code in first.

Steer well clear of all 084 and 087 numbers because, for them, VM is the most expensive calls provider in the UK.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

VM will skin you alive for 0871, 0872 and 0873 calls (as well as for 0843, 0844 and 0845 calls).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. This is complete nonsense. 'Local' calls were abolished about 7 years ago. It costs no more to phone a landline at the other end of the country than it does next door. A call to the same exchange costs the same whether the area code is used or not.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
