Video Card

Hi, can anyone suggest a suitable vintage video card to suit the following antique desktop computer:-
a Super 7 motherboard running an AMD K6-III+ processor overclocked to 500MHz, and 320Mb RAM (don't laugh!). It uses a GrafixStar 600 video card right now but that won't drive a new flat screen the owner has reluctantly acquired after the old 14" CRT screen went all fuzzy. The system PSU is just 200W.
What's needed is something that can go in a PCI slot, and is compatible with Windows XT, 98SE and yes, even 3.10 which are all bootable on the system.
Obviously this system is just for record keeping, emails and browsing. It won't even run YouTube videos properly etc. but it suits the owners needs, so any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

His easiest option by far would be to acquire a replacement CRT monitor. There are still loads of them sitting around doing nothing in cupboards from when they were replaced by LCD monitors. Freegle/Freecycle often has them available for nothing.

Incidentally, it's likely the only reason the existing card won't work with the new monitor is because the refresh rate is too high. If you have the option to choose a lower rate, it may work Ok.

Does it not have an AGP slot?

Honest suggestion - tell them to buy a new PC. I very much doubt you will be able to get a graphics card that is supported by 3.10. Or has fwor says get a replacement CRT.

If so, Sapphire Radeon 9200SE (128Mb) 8x AGP Video Card £7.99 Too much?

Drivers here from Windows 98 upwards.
  • fwor, Karl-123, TakeThis, Leo2020. Thanks for your replies. He's already bought quite a nice screen with a view to eventually upgrading to a current-spec desktop, so I'm not sure another CRT would be welcome but I'll mention it. Maybe to keep the old system going once the new one is acquired.
Actually the existing motherboard DOES have an AGP slot, so perhaps that possibility can be explored.
    Thanks again.

Just make sure that the Motherboard supports 1.5V signalling. Look here. If only 3.3 volts, that will limit the kind of card that you can use.
