I wonder if anyone can help or advise I am tearing my hair out here
I ordered a suite from DFS as my children were clubbing together to buy one as a joint present for my husband and I for Christmas & birthday.
One has now lost her job and we can't get the extra money together so we tried to cancel.
They have just refused saying we have no right to cancel.
I explained we couldnt pay and the charming (not) manager told me it would be delivered in a month whether we wanted it or not and then we would be pursued by debt collectors & bailiffs for the money.
I tried to explain but they just talking right over me.
I have now had a letter saying that when it arrives they will have to sell it off cheap in the shop and will pursue me for an extra £700 to make up their costs on top of the £350 my daughter has already paid.
Mu hubby has been unemployed which is my children were doing this for us and we can't get credit as we are blacklisted.
Can anyone recommend anything to do.

Could any one of the children get it on credit or credit card and then pay the one who gets it when they can.
Dont they do an interest free credit scheme.
Seems the only way really.
But they are right in what they say that once it is ordered you cant cancel without some sort of penalty.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I can understand that but over a thousand pounds seems steep when they haven't even got the suite yet in store as it isn't even finished being made they say they can sell it for just what they can get and we have to make up the shortfall seems they can sell to one of their friends or anything for what they choose in the worst case scenario.
They are insisting they will deliver it and dump it on the drive if necessary which seems to contradict the selling off scenario.0 -
Hi again I wonder if anyone else has had dealings with DFS in a similar situation they are ringing every day to say we will have to pay etc etc I am not sure if they are just trying to scare me they are succeeding! I slept not a wink last night.
Has anyone got any ideas the kids aren't happy to take over extra debt for the one who can't pay.0 -
Unfortunately your kids have a contract with the company and therefore will have trouble trying to renege on that. You may have more luck if you acknowledge that a contract has been entered into and ask what you can do from there rather than continuing to try and get out of the order all together. You could advertise the suite on eBay or similar to try and recoup the money already spent, so maybe worth asking them if they will deliver to an alternative address, or ask if you could extend the terms of the agreement to give you more time to pay. I'm sure there are ways to lessen the burden, but as long as you are trying to get out of it they may be less willing to help and more inclined to pursue their rights under the contract.0

Is it a custom sofa? Is there any reason why it can't be returned under DSR?Wedding 5th September 20150

That might be a reason.0 -
Thanks for the replies
Hi no we went into the store to order it the thing is we can't pay for it so couldn't sell it on ebay etc it is my dream sofa if there was anyway to pay we would have it I am now worried that they are saying they can sell it for 'what they can get for it' and classing it as secondhand even though they haven't even taken delivery of it their selves the sofa is still where ever they make them.
They won't listen in the store they just talk over you all the time and head office just transfer you back to the store again
I am past myself0 -
Sorry, but I really don't know what you expect anyone to say.
You have agreed to pay for this furniture.
You can't pay, for whatever reason.
They are entitled to sell the thing for whatever they can get for it and then bill you for the difference for what they get and what you owe them.
You think they might not get the best price.
In that case perhaps you should arrange a short term loan to buy it, and sell it again quickly to pay off the loan.
If that's not possible, then I fear you will end up with no sofa and still owing the shop money.
Clearly a member of your family is not honouring an agreement made to you.
Sounds harsh, but no other way of saying it really.0
