Advice needed: switched without my permission!
Hi,
I looked at my British Gas Electricity account today online to see that it had been closed. When I phoned them, they told me that EDF had taken over my supply. I did not request this and no-one informed me that it was happening. Now both EDF and British Gas tell me that it will take 6 weeks to switch me back and that neither of them have done wrong; that this 'just happens sometimes' when someone else gives them the wrong meter number.
I am unsure whether I am in any danger of being billed twice. Also, I no longer wish to stay with British Gas - do I really have to wait 6 weeks to be transferred back to them, before waiting another 6 weeks to be transferred to the new supplier of my choice (I do not have an account with EDF so they say I can't just stay with them)?
Has this happened to anyone else?

No, you will not be billed twice, as EDF and BG will agree a final closing and opening reading on which both bills can be based.
If you are already on supply with EDF, then it should not be necessary to go back to BG before switching elsewhere-you are in a deemed supply with EDF once you have used any of 'their' electricity.No free lunch, and no free laptop
