Try right click and open volume control. Check if the volume control is mute. Check the mute box and see it might work.

Device Manager Any yellow question marks?0

"open volume mixer" is not highlighted, only
playback devices
recording devices
sounds
"no audio output device is installed" shows when I 'hover' over the speaker0 -
in device manager, there is NO reference to any 'sound' items0

Reinstall sound driver - may be on an original disc supplied with the machine, or you can download from the HP site.0
-
what you mean 'just' go to HP site and pick out a sound driver (must it be the 'right one' for my model) ??0

try the windows " fix it " utility
it works fine siya karl...........0 -
As I see its

Integrated Realtek ALC888S Audio
So if you have windows vista/7 try to use update to find driver.
Or you can reinstall it like this:
go here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#High Definition Audio Codecs
tick accept and next, choose system version you need and download. Install and enjoy sound.
Btw there also should be a reason why driver has gone.... So be aware maybe your pc has any another problems....0 -
thanks.. tried most of those - no good. did a system restore - 'fine' now., but yes, why did it go in the first place ?0
