Confused about information given to me from EON salesman

I salesman from EON knocked on our door today telling us we might be able to switch and save money. I'm a student and we have only just moved into this house so we wondered what money we might save on a different company. He said we could save £130 and that he would send us the information about the tariff in the post if we gave them a couple of details (Name, date of birth etc.) no card details are anything like that where exchanged.
After he left we looked at the leaflet he left us and it seems to imply that we are already being switched which we didn't agree too. Now where confused and don't know what to do. Are we being switched? If so how do we stop them as we didn't actually agree to it.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you haven't entered into a contract, so can't legally be switched. However, unscrupulous salesmen have all kinds of tricks to get themselves commission. I would contact E.On directly by phone at first to confirm you do not wish to switch and ask for an address to write to, confirming you have not entered into a contract with them. Send it recorded delivery.
Keep copies of correspondence sent and ask for written replies. The reps on here may be able to get you started as well.

You cannot switch until you are registered for an account with the existing supplier, with whom you are in a deemed contract. You should have done that, and supplied them with meter readings, on the first day of your tenancy.
Once you've done that, do your own research using a comp site and make your own decisions-you will not get unbiased advice from any doorstep salespersons!
If you don't already have an account, then you cannot be successfully slammed by Eon, as the existing supplier will object to the switch.
Sounds highly dubious to me-why would he need a DOB just to send you some info by mail? Did you sign anything at all?

Also, how sure are you he was from E.On?

Any doorstep seller must now be from Eon-they're the only supplier left still practicing this dark art...

Thought my "go away, I don't buy anything from cold callers" sign was being quite effective! :D

As advised here, if you haven't done so already phone your current supplier IMMEDIATELY to register the account and give them the meter readings
Also ask them what the consumption in Kwh was for the previous year.

A a new account that supplier will enroll you onto an expensive 'Standard' tariff, but with annual figures they've given you, you can visit the Switch sites for a better deal

EON recently called me too and confused the hell out of me, probably on purpose. I hung up. I'm having enough trouble trying to figure out who to switch to because Scottish Power's quotes are even higher than what I'm paying now, so I don't need to switch to another provider that will confuse the hell out of me and take my money.
Listing debts to help keep my eyes on the prize
    Discover - $0 (!!!) :T
    AMEX - [STRIKE]$500.00[/STRIKE] $200.00 | BofA - [STRIKE]$3000.00[/STRIKE] $2000.00 | Capital One - [STRIKE]$2079.60[/STRIKE] $1745.00 | HSBC - $800.00 | Chase - $4000.00 (estimate) | Student loans (federal & private) - will likely be paying for life

Then use a comp site armed with your annual kWh figures: 5 minutes research will tell you all you need to know.
