Hello i have today recieved a parking charge notice with a photo of my vehicle, I lent my car to my son and it was parked where they say it was he had bought a ticket but he thinks he must have overstayed his time, he was left a ticket on windscreen and the photo shows entering and leaving car park, I have read a lot of people saying ignore these letters but as he was definetely parked there I am assuming he should pay, he is happy to pay I think just so that I don't get any more letters, just wanted to know whether he should or shouldn't thanks

But why should he pay an extortionate amount for staying over time? This comes under the civil law which says that the landowner can only claim for the actual material loss they have suffered. In this case it's a few pence at the most. So keep ignoring them.
Could you please tell us the name of the parking company as we like to name and shame on here. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
Thanks it was Parking eye0

Ignore unless its an official PCN issued by a council.0

If its Parking Eye he may well have not overstayed, they have a problem with their timings,

They are scammers who will come back for more money with even worse threats in late payment charges.
To what point exactly are you prepared to see him suffer to "learn his lesson"
£100
£200
£500
at what point would you tell him to stop paying the scam ?
Perhaps it is better you realise what you are getting in to before they start and protect your son from these no neck scamming thugs like a responsible father should.
Ignore them and protect your child !
What was left on the windscreen was in fact a flyer begging money and has no legal standing.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Your son overstaying in the car park deprived me of a space. I think if you are paying the parking company, you should pay me too.
£100 Please.

Dream on. If you're silly enough to pay once, they'll carry on sending letters adding more mystery charges in the hope you'll fall for it twice.0 -
If these robbers had one pound for every sucker that paid their extortionate "invoices" they would be millionaires! :undecided0

This comes under the civil law which says that the landowner can only claim for the actual material loss they have suffered.
Strictly speaking that may be incorrect, for a trespass landowners can be awarded nominal damages where there is no actual material loss or damage.
as per
http://www.lawteacher.net/PDF/Remedies%20Lecture.pdf
An overstay can be possibly claimed as a trespass (as opposed to a breach of contract ) because the permission to park is conditional on the payment, it can be argued that the permission lapses once the ticket expires.
Having said all that still IGNORE.0
