NI shortfall letter & ex-employer worry.

Today my hubby received a NI shortfall warning letter, and it says he is short by 8 years.

However, he got one last year which stated the same amount of shortfall years.

He worked for 12 months exactly from Sept '10 to this year and his wage slips show NI was deducted from his wage...???

As we can't call the NI office til next week - no credit on our phones :( - I'm wondering if his inept ex-employer has actually paid my hubby's contributions.

If he hasn't then what happens?

Like I said, he has the wage slips to show the deductions and he has a contract to prove that he wasn't self-employed and had to pay them himself.

In addition to this, my hubby has only taken 4 years out of paid employment whilst he was a mature student so where the 8 years comes from is baffling. Would him working in the Channel Islands be a factor in this? He moved there aged 17 and only came back to England 5 years ago.

Thanks in advance.

(I've posted another thread to do with this ex-employer refusing to pay our final wages, so this is yet another worry to do with this idiot of a man!)

  • You need a certain number of contributions in any tax year for it to count as a qualifying year for state pension, so it could be that if he only worked from September in the last tax year that he might not have enough.

I don't know how many contributions are needed to make up a qualifying year, but maybe someone else here does.

If not, you may get more help if you post your thread on the pensions board and perhaps add your husband's age.
