Another Community Care Grant Question

Some of you may remember me posting about applying for one of the new homes that have been built in the village.
Well, we were successful so we'll be moving. :D

Anyway, I emailed the Job Centre asking if they think we'll be eligible for a CCG and someone replied to me saying to give them my address and they'll send a form out to me.

My question is, do you actually have to be living in the home at the time you apply for the CCG?

We haven't got a moving in date yet and I wasn't sure if it was like HB where you can apply up to 6 weeks in advance, or if you have to actually be actively living in the property at the time of application.

Thank you in advance.

  • Saw your thread in the arms ... congrats on your home. Still waiting for somewhere myself.

That fact that you are not living in the property yet wont make a difference. Can i also suggest that you make an appointment with your locla CAB as they have the names of all the local charities that may be able to help. There is a lot of help out there for someone like you , just finding though.

Some areas have furniture projects... for the cost of £100 they would furnish your whole house, or provide you with one off items cheaply. I have taken many clients there and they have been really happy with it. ( very good quality pieces, more money than sense some people).

Good luck in your new home ...well deserved.

    Thanks hun. :D

I saw a lovely lady at CAB a few months ago but I can't remember her name. She was wonderful though and my CPN knows her so I'm going to email him to ask what her name was.:)

When I moved into my old home (I moved from supported housing to independent living) I got alot of my furniture from Emmaus. They have one here in Bristol so I might try and check that out too.

Also going to have a look on Freegle and Freecycle.

I'm a bit more apprehensive this time because last time I moved I had a CPN, a leaving care worker, a social worker and I went to a day centre type of place so I had alot of hands on support.

I do have a CPN now, a psych and a CBT therapist but they tend to be in the shadows abit and I'm changing CPN soon too. :(

  • A lot of councils and Housing associations offer a service now. Its not much but in your case if the service was available they would visit something like once a mth to see if your settling in ok and if you have any problems.

Its a bit basic but it can be helpful in respect of having them to sort out rent/council tax etc and any problems with the property re: your disability.
They too will know of all local organisations that could lend a hand ...so in that respect can be helpful.

I know what you mean about CPN etc all being in the background, not always helpful is it. You try and live independant and get on with your life but there are times when a little support doesn't go amiss.

You are wellcome to PM me if you have problems , im not living in the same area but will try and help which ever way i can if only someone to have a moan at.

Just focus on the positives of the move ( not always possible ). Let other's worry about the pratical side of it.

I was told by my CPN that I wouldn't be eligible for such a service because I'm married.:o

    Thank you.:)

I'm excited but extremely nervous too. My mental health issues mean that I find it hard to communicate with people sometimes and get extremely disorientated really easily. :(
