Paypal payment pending?

Won a couple of items on ebay today, paid for them all together from the funds that where already in my paypal account, there where five items all together, 4 payments cleared straight away, but one items gone to pyment pending.

Any ideas why if funds are already in paypal??

it could be that the sellers Paypal account has gone over their monthly receiving limit....

Sometimes it just happens. I've had buyers say exactly the same thing to me, they paid for 4 or 5 items and everyone went through properly except the one to me that turned up as an echeque. It seems completely random.

I last had an echeque about 12 months ago and now two more this week. They are a complete pain in the ar*e for buyer and seller alike.

Paypay advises in its email notification of payment that they should take 4 working days to clear - information I've passed onto the buyer. Yet logging into Paypal you'll see the stated time is 7-9 days to clear, so I've had to update the buyer accordingly. But now 11 days have passed and it still hasn't cleared, this is really poor - banks who have to physically transport bits of paper about can complete this process in 5 working days & have instant electronic transfers.

If I was a very cynical person I'd say that there is absolutely no legitimate reason behind the delay it's simply that Paypal like hanging onto a % of money for as long as possible so your money earns them some more interest.

My buyer has so far been patient, which is good of them, but PP are really taking the pis*.
I do hope you're telling the truth?

PayPal like to drag out the time for eCheques to clear so they can use the float much the same as UK banks used to. Since PayPal isn't a bank they can push the envelope until enough customers complain to the Ombudsman.

Whatever you do, don't ship until the funds are cleared - eCheques have a high bounce rate and a surprisingly large number are rejected on first attempt.

I won an item on Friday and it has on it Pending Payment through PayPal. This sum was sent to ....................on 2/2/07.

The seller has feedback but it is a low number. Do I just sit back and wait or is it possible that I won't get the item at all? If the latter is the case then I need to know so I can bid for another item the same. Thanks.

Lara, it just means that the payment you sent has gone as an echeque and it has nothing to do with the seller, it is your account that has done this for some reason.

All you can do is wait for the payment to clear, and once it does your seller should then despatch it within a few days. Just be warned though that like others have already said these echeques take ages to clear, which is really annoying for both the seller and the buyer.

Thanks Soolin. I've just checked to see if there is any change. There isn't. My son says it's because they don't have a paypal account  .

This is the wording on my paypal account beside their name:

Unclaimed pixel.gifThis status means the recipient has not received the payment from the sender yet. The reason might be the recipient has not signed up a PayPal account yet or their email address has not been confirmed.

Has anyone contacted PayPal and asked them why this happens? Is so do you have a phone number for them please? Naughty really as they have taken the money out of my account. I wanted it as part of a birthday present on Friday  !

Aha, yours isn't an echeque then , that puts it in an entirely different light.

It is more likely that you have used a card and the seller only has a basic account, or the seller mistyped his email address on the auction listing. This can now get a little confusing, your payment is sort of 'stuck' in limbo, you don't have it and neither does the seller.

If the seller has only got a basic account he will have to upgrade and then accept your payment, If the account details were wrong and the seller cannot access the paypal account then the payment will 'hang' for 30 days before bouncing back to you.

Either way you can do nothing at the moment. Whatever you do don't pay again by any other means of payment. Email the selelr ask them to claim your payment and come back and tell us what he says and we can advise you further.

    Hi Soo

I did send an email to them this morning but not heard anything back. Would you suggest I send another one?

    Thanks for your help!

    EDIT:
Just had an email from seller saying, No problem - they will sort it out and send item later.
