    Asbestos is typically fine if you leave it alone. If you are considering anything that may disturb it then you need to find a specialist that will remove it for you. If theres not reason to disturb it, then leave it.

    I used to work for a well known bank in the insurance dept. This phrase was an ok one for the mortgage company and insurer to go ahead and quite common to come accross, it was if there were current signs of movement that it was a problem (or rather it was up to the current insurer of the property to deal with. I wouldn't be worried if I were you.

    Do you want to share who that was, because when I was trying to find buildings insurance for exchange on a house with a similar survey, 99.5% of insurers wouldnt touch it with a barge pole.

    As far as online insurers go you can never answer no to the 'any history of movement question' and are immediately denied cover.

    Ruggedtoast....ur right I got quotes that are not willing to cover soon as u mention subsidence but my mortgage lender was only one who was willing to insure got quote for 25 a month

    The problem is you're pretty much stuck insuring with them or two other companies. Which is the same problem any potential buyer in the future will have when you want to sell.

    In the end I decided it wasnt worth it, but there were a lot of other factors informing that decision as well.

    I would be trying to get a discount I think.

    As soon as subsidence is mentioned it can cause problems with insurance and of course resale in the future, but houses of a certain age are expected to move a little as they settle, which in turn can cause cracks in the property.

    Well, this was before you could apply online. It was when I worked at Abbey National, which as you know doesn't exist anymore. All I know is that phrase alone didn't require us to send the application on to the underwriters for further assessment. It was as long as there had been no further signs of movement. If there had been subsidence that was ongoing, it would have had to have been taken on by the current insurer. There were plenty of surveys that had that comment. The kind of comment that bothered them more was if for example there were trees within a certain distance, because they can cause subsidence and then I think they had to be reviewed by a tree specialist with a special qualification. Are you certain it was just that specific phrase on your application that caused them to reject you?
